Welcome to the 3rd day of the challenge: Mastering the Stroke - Lines and Squares
CREATING A REALISTIC PORTRAIT IN 21 DAYS WITH MY RIGHT HAND!
Today, we continue the work of learning the basic drawing movements—the ones that will allow me to create a beautiful piece of art, regardless of the style!
To make learning easier with my "rebellious" hand, I am keeping my grid paper, which will help me with these control exercises!
EXERCISE N°1: HORIZONTAL LINES
I am continuing the work of line control, this time by creating long lines. I draw them using the visual guide of the grid paper, trying to make them as straight as possible without any breaks in the stroke!
I start by drawing from left to right (the easiest for this hand!) then I reverse it and fill the entire sheet!
Tip: I don't grip my pen too tightly, and I let my hand glide across the paper.
EXERCISE N°2: SQUARES, CIRCLES, TRIANGLES
Still using the grid as a guide:
* I draw 5 rows of squares
* I draw 5 rows of circles
* I draw 5 rows of triangles
EXERCISE N°3: MY FIRST CUBE!!!
This exercise requires control from my hand (horizontal, vertical, and diagonal lines) but also asks my brain to work on conceptualizing 3D space!
In fact, I am moving from 2D drawing—length and width—to a drawing that takes a third measurement into account: depth, which allows for the creation of perspective!
I am going to start drawing with volume instead of just flat shapes!
Tip:
1. I start by drawing a 3x3 square.
2. I draw a second 3x3 square shifted one grid space to the right and upward.
3. I connect the two squares by their corners.
And there you go! I know how to draw in 3D!!!
Challenge 3, Exercise 3
That’s all for today!
My right hand is less tense and is starting to respond well to my commands; my lines are becoming more consistent and my stroke is less shaky!
Even though all these exercises are a bit "tedious," they are ESSENTIAL—just like practicing scales for a pianist!!!
See you tomorrow!
