Day 13: The Drapery Exercise

Theme: Shadow Work Part 4

Welcome to the 13th day of my personal challenge:

21 DAYS to learn how to draw a realistic portrait with my right hand!

Today is the continuation and conclusion of my drapery exercise!

I finished with the blending work and highlighting contrasts. For this, I used my paper blending stumps again and took care to refine the cast shadow lines and the shadow edges (the "terminator") to give my drawing a sense of depth and relief!

Yesterday's sketch...                                     After 15 minutes...

There! The result is quite good, even though my right hand remains clumsy; I still have trouble controlling the line and the pressure! I find it difficult to respect my value scale because I struggle to maintain consistent pressure, and 15 minutes goes by very, very quickly!

I have 8 days left to succeed in my challenge, which is about 1 hour and 20 minutes of total practice remaining to draw a realistic portrait! And given how long it takes me to complete a drapery, I’m starting the portrait tomorrow!

See you tomorrow!
