Leave a comment on Day 12: The drapery exercise
Theme: Shadow work 3
Welcome to the 12th day of my personal challenge:
21 DAYS to learn how to draw a realistic portrait with my right hand!
BEFORE STARTING: a well-sharpened pencil!
2 reasons to "sharpen" your pencil correctly:
To have a sharp point for drawing clean and precise lines.
To have a good length of lead to use the pencil at an angle and create flat tints on small and large surfaces.
How to sharpen your pencil?
I use a utility knife bought at an art supply store to expose as much lead as possible, and I rub the lead on fine sandpaper to obtain a sharp point when necessary. This method is very effective but makes the pencils extremely fragile! So be careful!
END OF THE SKETCH AND SHADING
I am returning to my sketch to finish placing my shadows. At this stage of my drawing, the most important thing is to clearly define my areas and contours: some shadows create sharp and clean outlines, while others are blurry!
